Music & You with Teddy Katigbak

Love is shown in different languages. There’s words of affirmation, physical touch, giving gifts, acts of service, and quality time. But where does music fall into this? One of the most creative expressions of love is through a song. Whether it be a personal song written for a loved one or a commercial song written for a brand, Teddy is one who knows the ins-and-outs of songwriting for anyone. 

Teddy has many musical influences in his life– naming his family for one! Outside of work, he composes and produces his own music. But within loudBox, he’s one of the most sought after members of the loudBox Studios music team composing and arranging award-winning ads! 

Musical composition in the advertising industry works a bit differently from songs created in your own time. "Being a music producer in advertising who is always given lyrics by an advertising agency, I got used to creating melodies based on an already written set of lyrics," Teddy explains. In the beginning, it took him some time to get used to this way of working. "My first instinct is to write lyrics, then create a melody, and then adjust lyrics if needed," he said.

Teddy is a songwriter in his own right. "I'm proud of all my songs," he said. Most of the songs he has written are not published for the public to hear, but he did mention that they all sound good. Inspiration is important for Teddy when it comes to songwriting. This comes as no surprise, as he mentioned that one of his sources of inspiration is his family. If he were to name some of the songs he has written, his favorite song would be the ones he wrote for his wife, "Spend My Life With You". Along with that, he has also written songs for his kids, such as "Beautiful" for his daughter and "Adam Song" for his youngest son. Apart from being a songwriter, Teddy is also proficient in playing instruments. "One of my favorite albums is my first album called 'All About Love', which is an all-instrumental orchestral album," he said.

Teddy draws inspiration from his own life experiences and even the experiences of others. "The last song I wrote was from my wife's perspective, having to put up with all my s**t and still loving me no matter what," he mentioned.

Teddy's passion for music shines through his work, whether it's composing for advertisements or writing personal songs for his loved ones. Teddy is behind the composition and arrangement of the 2021 Gold Kidlat award winning song, San Miguel “Side By Side”, and the recently shortlisted McDonald’s “Feel Good, Feel Sale” in the 15th Kidlat Awards, to name a few. His dedication to the craft and willingness to push himself to create meaningful music sets him apart. For Teddy, music is not just a language of love, but a language of emotion that can touch people's hearts in profound ways.“Never ever stop writing a song that doesn’t make you happy, cry, or have any feeling that you need to get out of it.” Teddy said. “If the song you’re doing doesn’t feel the way you want it to make you feel, DO NOT STOP until you get it.” He added. Music sparks strong emotion in Teddy, and that is what makes him a great member of the loudBox team.
